48th State on February 14th, 1912In honor of the great state here are some fun facts and pictures.
- Arizona has more parks and national monuments than any
other state, more mountains than Switzerland, and more golf
courses than Scotland.

- The hottest recorded day in Phoenix was June 26, 1990, when
the temperature hit 122 degrees.
- Arizona leads the nation in copper production, hence one of
its many nicknames The Copper State.
- The bola tie is the official state neckwear.
- Arizona, along with Hawaii, does not observe Daylight
Saving Time (except for Navajo Nation).
- In Arizona, it is unlawful to refuse a person a glass of water.
-My own personal fact I like to share with people...my
Arizona Drivers License doesn't expire until I'm 65!
freshman year at BYU living in the dorms.
My R.A. was from AZ too, so she was more than
happy to let me paint the state flag on the lobby window.
If you were in Provo in Feb 2004, you might have seen
this as you drove down 900 E.
Anyway, hope you enjoy my tribute to my home state (no
New Mexico doesn't really count). How I wish I could
be home now enjoying a warm AZ winter. :)

And don't forget your (our) great-aunt Lavona, born the day Arizona became a state, and named after Valentine's day and Arizona. She says it's better than being named Ariztine.
For some reason, I love that joke. Maybe partly from the fact that she was 92 when I met her and heard it. I still think the state of Arizona ought to give her a place of honor when they have their centennial in four years.
Whoa...I was that RA! I'm so honored to be mentioned on this here blog of yours. And I am so happy to see that picture...I had to show it off to my roommates. It makes me so dang happy! Arizona Statehood Day is one of the greatest days of the year!
Ok, I understand that you were 13 when we moved to Arizona from New Mexico, but to deny the place of your birth is wrong. And besides, you spent 13 years there versus a solid 6-7 in Arizona, a few in Utah and now New York. I am almost ashamed that you reject the "Land of Enchantment". You're just an adopted child of Arizona.
Holla to the Bola! My physics teacher wore a Bola/Bolo tie at BYU all the time. SOOO awesome. I miss Phoenix, lets meet for vacation in Arizona!
Ok, maybe flat out denying NM as the land of my birth, was wrong. It is true that I lived more years in NM (though for about 3-4 of those years I don't really remember anything, which makes about my time equal in both states), but the years in AZ are when I really grew and what defined me. I apologize to the "Land of Enchantment" but similarly as an adopted child is closer to their adopted parents, I too am closer to my "adopted" state...and that is something I cannot deny. ;)
You make me laugh. WHERE DID YOU COME FROM???? I don't think you are a result of being born in New Mexico or raised in Arizona.
