Cambodia: Day Two

Drum roll please...

Finally, the second day of our journeys in Cambodia.
I bet you thought it was never going to happen.
Well, you were wrong, so here it is.

After a much needed nights sleep (in a bed, not airplane
seat), we started the day with breakfast.

We went to this little restaurant that had both
Cambodian and American food. They also had
this lovely little Christmas tree.
Dad was excited for his eggs. I myself was ready
to eat some french toast.
Marc and mom opted for the more traditional
breakfast of pork and rice.
After breakfast, it was back to roaming around
the city to meet with families that Marc had been
able to teach or from the wards he had served in.

More pictures from around the city.
Mom and dad in the gongbay.
One of the stops was visiting the new church building.
Most building the branches meet in in Cambodia are
rented. This is one of the first church owned building.

Pictured in front of the church is our gongbay. Our
driver is a branch president in the 2nd branch in Phnom
Pehn. If you look at the side of the gongbay you will
notice the letters C-T-R. The back had the letters L-D-S.
The foyer of the building was so beautiful with the
marble flooring.
The tour of the building included the garden
area in the back. I really liked this building
behind the church.
As I was saying, the garden area behind the church...
Bird of Paradise
Not sure what these flowers are called,
but they are pretty.
The church sign in Cambodian...
...and in English.
One of the members came to see Marc while we
were there. Apparently he wanted us to buy him
a computer. We would later see him at the airport
at the end of our trip.
After spending the first half of the day visiting,
it was time to head to the bus stop to catch our
bus up to Battambang.

While near the bus stop, we decided to
get a bite to eat before our 5-6 hour bus ride.
Dad doesn't look as excited about this meal.
I love these silly pictures of Marc.
Mom and I as we waited for our fried noodles.
Yum! I'm not lying...it was actually pretty good.

Then it was onto the bus for one of the worst
bus rides of the trip. The scenery was great,
but the driver sure didn't know how to keep
his hand off the horn. In Cambodia, if you are
driving a car or bus, you honk to let motos
know you are behind them so they move over.
Understood, but this guy was over the top.

Anyway, enjoy some of the scenery.
I learned that in Cambodia, they make sure they take
plenty of bus stops along the way. People need their food, etc.
I liked this little dog sleeping here.
Oh, and this hen and her chicks.
Her is our bus.
Marc chatting with the vendors. You can see
there are some interesting foods to be found here.
I do love how they cut their pineapple (which I
will show you in another picture later).
Cows in the land next to the bus stop.
More driving...
Inside our bus. They were playing the new Rambo
movie for our enjoyment. I sure enjoyed seeing
Stallone rip a guys jugular from his neck with his
bare hands. Everyone enjoys that!
Oh, also note the curtains and fringe.
Nice touch isn't it?

Mother scoping the countryside.
Lots of wats (temples) everywhere.
By late Saturday night, we finally made it to
Battambang. It had been a long ride and we were
all ready for bed. Looks comfy doesn't it.
P.S. This is the hotel room where mom got ants in
her suitcase. Why us girls had ants in our room and
not the boy's, we don't know, but we did.

Well, until the next day's post...

Good show, good show. But just for the record, our gongbay driver was the Branch President of Kean Svay (a suburbian village outside of Phnom Penh). And the guy who asked for the computer was a previous investigator. But hopefully he'll be baptized someday (without the persuasion of a computer).

Looks like a ton of fun. Maeley sure enjoys looking at "Kimmy's" blog. I hope you're doing well. Are you freezing? It's way too warm here.
