As most know, it has been a very snowy winter this year in the Northeast. Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Baltimore have definitely gotten more snow than NYC, but this past week the city got hit by another pretty good snow storm. The rain/snow started Thursday morning and eventually turned into a steady snow. By Friday morning, there was a good amount of snow on the ground much of the public transportation outside of the city was shut down. I must say though that I have been very impressed with the cities snow preparedness and making sure city streets and sidewalks get cleared.
Anyway, the snow pretty much tapered off by Friday evening. Saturday morning I had a bridal shower brunch to attend at Sarabeth's at Central Park South. After brunch, a few of us wanted to talk a walk though the park to see the beautiful winter scenery. I was excited because I never come up to Central Park in the winter, and had actually anticipated talking a stroll before I left the apartment so I had my camera on me. Check out these fun pictures:
Sara discovered it was perfect snowball-making snow. Ellie watched on.
The park was super busy with people enjoying a plethora of snow activities...
...sledding...
...making snowmen...
...or a snow fort...
...or a carriage ride through the park (well, not so much a snow activity.
As we strolled along, it was decided that we should go sledding.
So we put the plan in motion and started calling/texting people to come meet up with us for our brilliant sledding activity. We also, obviously, needed to find some sleds. After visiting several stores (more like Bed, Bath and Beyond) we finally had success!
Sara and Ellie with our shiny new sleds (Thanks Gracious Home)!
It was time for the inaugural runs.
Ellie...
...Sara...
...and myself.
Andrew, Sara's brother, eventually joined us...
...as well as Brittany and Carrie.
Check out that air!
After a little bit, we decided to try for a new hill. I snapped some more pictures along the way...
I wonder what these people were thinking? Tim Burton perhaps?
Someone built this amazing snow bear (or dog?).
We finally found another hill that would meet our satisfaction...
Some nice action shots.
Mandatory roommate photo.
It had been forever since I had last been sledding and we had such a great day. I truly love it when sporadic things like this happen. It was a much needed Saturday full of fun (and delicious cookies afterward). Plus, now I can say I've been sledding in Central Park!
