Mother-Daughter Weekend: The Middle

Friday Night

After a long day of fun and heat, what are a bunch
of tired girls supposed to do?
Well after eating a small dinner (Subway subs) and
watching the movie Penelope (it was pretty cute I might
add), we did what any normal, sane human being would
do to entertain ourselves...

...we busted out the karaoke!
(this is mom's portrayal of a normal, sane human being)
Aunt Kathy and Brittany singing a duet.

For those of you who have played my karaoke games
with me, you know that the best part are the characters.
My mom decided that when we sang we also had to dance
like our character. This made for some pretty humorous
moments...mostly because of my moms amazing performances.

Mom and Aunt Kathy's turn to duet.
Mom sure got into it.
Aunt Kathy was having fun.
And Brittany participated, though she would
normally refuse on any other occasion.
Here is a video of Brittany and Aunt Kathy singing there duet.
(Sorry, my other video is oriented the wrong way)

Finally after a long day, we called it a night.

Saturday

Saturday was another fun filled day. For those of you
who live in NYC or have ever visited, you should know
that there is a very important thing you must do on
your Saturday morning...

...but first before I tell you where we were going,
let me show you what we did on the way there.

Mother and I had a Mother-Daughter photo shoot
in the subway station while we waited for an uptown train.
Aunt Kathy and Brittany had their photo shoot in the
actual subway train as we traveled to the UWS
(that is Upper Westside for those readers who don't know).
When we came out at Columbus Circle, we found another
one of those MLB Statue of Libertys. This particular statue
representing the All-Star Game that had taken place
earlier in the week at Yankee Stadium.
Mother and I also took it upon ourselves to pose
with these statues. We like to do that sort of thing.
We finally reached our destination. What was our
destination? Brunch of course! From Brittany's expression,
it was pretty silly of you to ask.
We went to one of my favorite places for brunch, Whym.
You'll remember that we went there for Brenda's
birthday back in March.

I like this picture of Brittany with the light fixture.
And I love this picture of my stuffed french toast!
It taste better than it looks, too.
This was mother's more sensible dish.
We sort of shared but I ended up changing my
mind and finished off the french toast.

After brunch we took a stroll turn some of Central Park and
visited the temple pretty quickly, We then headed down to
Times Square to hit up some of the stores, such as the
Hershey Factory and M&Ms Store. There the all
important souvenirs were purchased for the grandkids.

On our way through Time Square we ran into Elmo!
Someone else got a picture of Brittany and I with
Elmo (who in actuality was a spanish lady dressed
up working for tips).
We decided we should check out the Toys 'R Us
at Time Square. When we walked in, there was
another one of these lovely ladies
(no not mother, the statue).
This is the ferris wheel in the store.
I think if I were to take a ride I would want
the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo
(not pictured).
Geoffrey the Giraffe made an appearance!
So did T-Rex!!!
The store also has these cool lego replicas
of NYC icons.

Statue of Liberty
Empire State Building
(sorry, no Fay Wray)
The Chrysler Building
and Grand Central.
While at Toys 'R Us, Mom got fresh with this penguin.
The penguin had no hard feelings though.
After leaving the toy store, yep you guessed it,
we found another statue.

The rest of the afternoon consisted of making a quick
stop in China town, just so Aunt Kathy could say she saw
it. Then we did a bit of shopping in Union Square.

Then after all the shopping was done, we had dinner
at another one of my favorite restaurants...

Max Brenner's: Chocolate by the Bald Man.
I like to describe it as the Willy Wonka Factory for adults.

My favorite entree there is the pulled pork crepe.
It is simply divine and I highly recommend it.

The other thing I highly recommend?
The Molten Heart Cake with raspberry sauce.
Can we say tasty?!?!

And now a commercial break from our
Lady Liberties.

After a little break at home and stopping at Whole
Foods to get groceries for Sunday's dinner, we
took a stroll on the Brooklyn Bridge.
Downtown Manhattan.
This is the picture of the waterfall under the bridge.
The Waterfalls are a pretty cool installation in
the East River that are there until October.
Downtown with South Street Seaport in the foreground.
Once again, me trying to take artistic photos.
I don't think they turned out too bad.
In the middle of this photo highlighted in blue
is another one of the waterfalls by the Williamsburg bridge.

One last photo op for the day.

And that was the "middle' of our weekend adventures.
One more post to go!
(which will be a lot shorter, I promise)

So where's the video of you and your mother doing karaoke? You say she "sure got into it," but I want proof!
